What’s the best way to bring your dreams of adventure to life with your next vehicle? Moreover, is it possible to do this without spending a fortune on a new model? As your premier used Jeep dealer, we are excited to say that it’s not only possible but an everyday reality for our customers thanks to models like the award-winning Grand Cherokee.

A staple in the Jeep lineup since the early 1990s, the Grand Cherokee is a best-selling SUV known for its competency on and off the pavement and its luxurious cabin that blends athleticism with sophistication and ingenuity. This combination is prominent throughout our selection of used Grand Cherokee models, with most customers turning to 2020 or newer models to enjoy modern styling, capability, and technologies comparable to the newest Grand Cherokees on our lot.

Appreciating the Legacy: Grand Cherokee History

Investing in a used Grand Cherokee means joining an incredible legacy that’s defined the American landscape since the 1940s. Jeep was born of necessity when it responded to a bid from the American military for a light reconnaissance vehicle. The Willys Quad was vital in the war, leading Jeep to expand to the civilian side. The Quad paved the way for the Wrangler and, ultimately, the Grand Cherokees on our lot today.

Decades after Jeep introduced its CJ or Civilian Jeep, the automaker answered the need for a more luxurious and adventurous SUV with the Grand Cherokee. The mid-size SUV made an incredible debut when it crashed through the glass windows of Cobo Hall during the 1992 Detroit Auto Show. It broke the proverbial glass ceiling by encouraging drivers to shift their perspective of what an off-road-capable SUV should be. With the Grand Cherokee, adventure can also be luxurious.

Grand Cherokee Highlights: 2020 to Present

Today, every Grand Cherokee in our inventory embodies this incredible legacy and continues a rich tradition of balancing luxury with capability. More importantly, Jeep consistently updates the Grand Cherokee to introduce new capabilities and features. Because of this, late fourth- and early fifth-generation models are popular finds on our used lot.

2020 Grand Cherokee: The Year of Trim and Package Updates

Jeep made several updates to the Grand Cherokee’s trim and packages in 2020. The seven-trim lineup starts with the Laredo and Limited, followed by the Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, SRT, and Trackhawk. The trims boast distinct personalities and capabilities, courtesy of Jeep’s award-winning Pentastar 3.6L V6 that serves as the base powerplant. The 475-hp 6.4L V8 powers the SRT, while the potent Trackhawk generates 707 horsepower from its supercharged 6.2L V8.

New trim details and package options for the 2020 Grand Cherokee start with the Premium Lighting Group, which adds high-intensity headlamps, LED fog lights, automatic high beams, and signature daytime running lights. Jeep expands the availability of its Active Safety Group to the Laredo, a significant upgrade to the base trim. The suite adds Forward Collision Warning-Plus, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus, Advanced Brake Assist, and auto high beams.

Trim-specific updates include a new wheel option—20-inch Titanium Aluminum wheels—for the Trackhawk and a Signature Leather-Wrapped Interior Package that trims the cabin in Black and Ski Gray. The Overland and Summit also introduce new interior options, with Jeep pairing Dark Sienna and Black on the Overland and Brown with Light Frost on the Summit. The High Altitude is instantly recognizable by its Low Gloss Granite Crystal wheels, while the Limited and Trailhawk feature a standard sunroof that adds to their opulence.

2021 Grand Cherokee: The Commemorative Anniversary Edition

The 2021 Grand Cherokee celebrates Jeep’s rich history with the 80th Anniversary Edition. Based on the Limited, the special edition Grand Cherokee exudes luxury with its leather seating, Light Tungsten interior accents, commemorative badging, and extensive suite of advanced connectivity, safety, and driver-assist technologies. Jeep spares no expense and outfits the model with the Pro Tech II Package, adding features like Full-Speed Collision Warning with Active Braking, Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and Advanced Brake Assist.

The rest of the Grand Cherokee lineup sees modest updates for 2021. The Limited introduces a dual-pane sunroof and a nine-speaker audio system with the Sun and Sound Package. The Laredo X adds an expansive 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation and luxuries like heated front seats and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel.

2022 Grand Cherokee: A New Generation and a Growing Lineup

Jeep introduced the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee in 2022, redesigning the award-winning SUV and expanding its lineup to offer more capability and innovation. You’ll see this firsthand as you shop for a 2022 Grand Cherokee, especially with the first-ever Grand Cherokee 4xe and the Trailhawk 4xe. These trims electrify the Grand Cherokee as plug-in hybrid vehicles that boast an estimated range of 440 miles and redefine the all-immersive Jeep experience with a near-silent 25-mile all-electric range perfect for venturing into the woods. With 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of near-instant torque to complement Jeep’s legendary four-wheel-drive systems, the Grand Cherokee 4xe trims are competent adventurers on and off the pavement.

The 2022 Grand Cherokee’s redesign also introduces a more spacious, luxurious, and tech-savvy cabin. With an increase in passenger and cargo volumes, the Grand Cherokee showcases Jeep’s keen attention to detail by blending functionality and luxury. This balance is especially apparent in trims like the Summit Reserve, which features Palermo leather seats and Jeep’s all-immersive 19-speaker, 950-watt McIntosh audio system.

Drivers who appreciate modern technologies will want to start their Grand Cherokee with the 2022 model. Jeep introduced the Uconnect 5 system and debuted a segment first with the front passenger touchscreen display. The expansive digital displays complement the Grand Cherokee’s comprehensive suite of driver-assist technologies that include over 110 features like Active Driving Assist and a 360-degree surround-view camera.

2023 Grand Cherokee: The Evolution Continues

Riding the heels of its fifth-generation debut, the Grand Cherokee sees few updates for 2023. Jeep finetunes the Grand Cherokee’s lineup to reflect the growing demands, particularly its commitment to a future of “Zero Emissions Freedom.” We see this in the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, which, as of 2023, is only available as a plug-in hybrid or 4xe model.

Beyond the Trailhawk’s update, the 2023 Grand Cherokee sees more features added to various trims. For example, the Limited and Overland models come with a 10.1-inch touchscreen with the Uconnect 5 NAV system. You can also find trim-specific upgrades, like the nine-speaker audio system on the Limited or the 19-speaker McIntosh system on the Overland and Summit.
