Would you say that you’re more adventurous than most? You don’t blow off steam at mimosa brunches or on the golf course. You get your energy out on the open road, surrounded by boulders and waterfalls instead of fake grass and heat lamps. You want to touch and feel nature at its wildest points and aren’t that interested in touching polyester at department stores. Well, it sounds like, whether you realize it or not, you’re in need of a Wrangler Rubicon. The Rubicon is the most advanced off-road variant of the Jeep Wrangler, and it’s pretty much prepared to take you wherever your adventure ambitions want to go.
You can find the Jeep Wrangler for sale, including the impressive Rubicon, at our well-stocked dealership. We know it will excite avid off-roaders and thrill-seekers alike. But you don’t have to blindly trust us on that. Below, we’ll break down three features that make the Rubicon extremely competent on rough terrain (there are way more than three, but we’ll start with these). Even if you’re an avid off-roader who already understands some of these features, it’s always inspiring to refresh ourselves on the cool things a genuine off-road SUV can do. Whether this blog educates you, motivates you, or both, one thing’s for sure: you’ll be packing your camping gear by the end of it.
Front and Rear Lockers
Let’s first discuss the front and rear lockers, which are going to be your best friends in low-traction situations. As a refresher, lockers let you lock two wheels on an axle together so that they spin at the same speed. If one of your wheels loses contact with the ground, the locker will send torque to the wheel that still has a grip on things, which ensures your vehicle keeps moving forward.
As you can imagine, when you ditch pavement and concrete for muddy trails and rocky terrain, there’s no guarantee that all of your wheels will make contact with the ground—or at least quality contact with it—at all times. You could hit a trail that was unevenly washed out by a rain storm, so you have one tire hitting dry land while the other is trudging through mud. You might be on a trail that’s been partially gutted by a herd of wild buffalo, constantly covering potholes on one side, then the other. It’s important that the wheels that have traction get maximum torque. Lockers do that.
Why do we love that you get both front and rear lockers on the Rubicon? Keep in mind that many models have rear lockers. But you’ll have the most command with both because it will let you keep on going even if only one of your four wheels has traction. When you have front and rear lockers, you’re ready to tackle any challenging terrain. But remember to disengage those lockers when you have to return to the concrete jungle—locked wheels are tough on tires when you’re driving on regular roads.

Electronic Sway Bar Disconnect
When you’re navigating appointments in the city or carpools in the suburbs, you want a pretty stable vehicle. You don’t want your vehicle bouncing around in response to every little bump in the road. That’s why it’s great that in most cars, your suspension’s left and right sides are connected, keeping things stable. But when you escape paved roads for wilder environments, you accept that a stable ride simply won’t happen. And, at that point, keeping the left and right sides of the suspension connected can actually lead to an even more turbulent drive. It’s like trying to stay super still when you’re standing in the waves of the ocean; somehow, things just get easier when you let yourself ride the waves and go with the flow.
You can effortlessly ride whatever terrain you’re exploring by disconnecting the sway bar of your Rubicon. It’s going to disconnect the two sides of your suspension, so your suspension can bend and flex over challenging terrain, and your wheels can do their own thing, unhindered by the movement of the other. You’ll find that you can climb over rocks with much more ease this way and maintain terrific traction. Just remember to reconnect that sway bar when real life drags you back onto paved roads. Otherwise, you’ll experience some shocking body roll when you’re turning the corner by the grocery store.
XTreme 35-Inch Tire Package
An impressive off-road vehicle wouldn’t be complete without impressive off-road tires. We highly recommend adding the XTreme 35-inch Tire Package. That will get you 35-inch all-terrain tires with beadlock-capable wheels. The reinforced side walls and amazing traction of these tires should give you the confidence to tackle the trickiest of terrain. If you plan on reducing the air pressure in your tires for off-roading, you’ll appreciate being able to secure that tire bead to the wheel so it doesn’t dislodge when you go rock crawling.
This package also gets you a reinforced swing gate, allowing you to mount a full-size 35-inch spare tire. Oh, and you also get a nice 1.5-inch lift with this kit, getting you better clearance on obstacle-littered trails. Even though you’ll have to pay more for it, we think this package is well worth it if you want to see what the Rubicon is truly made of. Plus, unlike installing aftermarket lift kits and bigger tires, a Rubicon with the XTreme 35-inch Tire Package is fully covered under your standard Jeep factory warranty and you know that every part of the package will work together perfectly and last for a long time without any surprises. If you’re custom-ordering a Wrangler Rubicon with us, be sure to ask about this awesome package.
